Coarsening dynamics of a one-dimensional driven Cahn-Hilliard system.

We study the one-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation with an additional driving term representing, say, the effect of gravity. We find that the driving field E has an asymmetric effect on the solution for a single stationary domain wall (or ‘kink’), the direction of the field determining whether the analytic solutions found by Leung [J. Stat. Phys. 61, 345 (1990)] are unique. The dynamics of a k...

Competition of coarsening and shredding of clusters in a driven diffusive lattice gas

We investigate a driven diffusive lattice gas model with two oppositely moving species of particles. The model is motivated by bi-directional traffic of ants on a pre-existing trail. A third species, corresponding to pheromones used by the ants for communication, is not conserved and mediates interactions between the particles. Here we study the spatio-temporal organization of the particles. In...

Critical behavior of the two-dimensional randomly driven lattice gas.

We investigate the critical behavior of the two-dimensional randomly driven lattice gas, in which particles are driven along one of the lattice axes by an infinite external field with randomly changing sign. A finite-size scaling (FSS) analysis provides novel evidences that this model is not in the same universality class as the driven lattice gas with a constant drive (DLG), contrarily to what...

A three-dimensional lattice gas model for amphiphilic fluid dynamics

We describe a three-dimensional hydrodynamic lattice-gas model of amphiphilic fluids. This model of the non-equilibrium properties of oil-water-surfactant systems, which is a non-trivial extension of an earlier two-dimensional realisation due to Boghosian, Coveney and Emerton [2], can be studied effectively only when it is implemented using high-performance computing and visualisation technique...

Lattice gas dynamics: application to driven vortices in two dimensional superconductors.

A continuous time Monte Carlo lattice gas dynamics is developed to model driven steady states of vortices in two dimensional superconducting networks. Dramatic differences are found when compared to a simpler Metropolis dynamics. Subtle finite size effects are found at low temperature, with a moving smectic that becomes unstable to an anisotropic liquid on sufficiently large length scales.
